Don’t let the annual M.O.T be your wake up call to tell you how much you have neglected your car. Here are some top tips to keep everything in ticking order.
Top Car Maintenance Tips:
Car Battery - Part of your regular car maintenance is your car battery maintenance. They should last around three years, however keep a look out for any warning signs. If the red warning lamp stays on or the battery sounds low then get it checked by TH Mobile Mechanic.
Car Radiator - Check the car radiator levels before long journeys and top up with anti-freeze if necessary.
Only ever check and open the cooling system cap when the engine is cool.
If the engine is hot or warm leave it cool down first.
Mirrors and Windows - It may seem obvious, but these need to be kept clean to make sure you have the best possible visibility. Ice and snow in the winter can often leave dirt on your windows and mirrors, de-misting may temporarily clean them however a good wash will remove the dirt.
Car Oil - A great car maintenance tip is to change your cars oil every 6000 miles or at least once a year as oil degrades over time so this is the best way to keep your engine in top condition & save you cash in the long run.
Car Lights - Check all your lights (you can back up to a reflective surface to check the rear lights) don’t forget to check the number plate light too.
Door hinges - Something people usually wouldn’t consider during car servicing is to oil your door hinges to ensure they open and close smoothly.
Steering - If the car feels like it may be pulling to one side when driving or the steering feels loose in any way or you hear and or feel noises from the steering always have it checked out .
Car brakes - Your brakes should pull the you up evenly in a straight line without any scratching or scraping noises if you hear or feel these have them checked asap,
Brake fluid - Your brake fluid should be renewed every 2-3 years, it will absorb moisure from the air.

Car tyres - Another tip is to regularly check your tyres for any cuts and damage, also it’s important to keep an eye on the tyre pressure and depth.
As well as car maintenance & car servicing make sure you keep supplies in your car - It’s a good idea to keep your boot stocked up with supplies in case of an emergency. We recommend:
- Spare tyre, or tyre repair kit.
- Waterproofs - if you get stranded on a road-side.
- A small supply of engine oil
- A torch - in case you break down in the dark
- Water in case of coolant lose.
